In her current capacity as the Director of ICT and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of UNESCAP, Ms. Sirimanne leads the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway (AP-IS) initiative which aims to develop seamless and resilient regional broadband networks to foster the Internet ecosystem, narrow the digital divides and accelerate the digital economy in the region. During her tenure with ESCAP, Ms. Sirimanne has served as the Secretary to the ESCAP Commission, headed the trade facilitation programme of ESCAP, and led the macroeconomic policy work and ESCAP’s flagship publication, Economic and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific. Before joining ESCAP, Ms. Sirimanne was with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, where she led the economic policy team. Ms. Sirimanne has also worked for the Canadian Ministry of Finance and the World Bank. She has a PhD in economics.
